Dear Winnetka Hockey Families:
The WHC wants to thank you for your

your kids bring to this great sport. We want you to be aware
of important dates for your late summer planning as
well as traditional fall/winter dates that need to be placed
on your calendars. As always, additional details specific to
ice times will be posted on the website as we draw closer to
the fall. We will provide another series of email blasts and
website posts throughout the summer.

HOLIDAY PLANNING
Thanksgiving: The WHC is a sponsor of the Wishbone
Classic, which for
years has been held over the Thanksgiving holiday. The
majority of our
travel hockey teams participate in this tournament.
Player attendance in
this event is required.
Christmas/New Years:
The WHC does not hold team practices or have games
over this two week period which coincides with the public
school calendar.
President’s and Martin
Luther King Weekend: Travel teams typically schedule
their one out-of-state tournament on either one of these two
weekends. These out of town trips are a highlight for the
kids and attendance is strongly recommended.
School Events and
Religious Holidays: The WHC continues to plan
practice
and game schedules mindful of schools events and
religious holidays. In
addition to our local planning, we attempt to coordinate
with our league
affiliates to make sure all parties are aware of
potential conflicts and
look to adjusted schedules to support these commitments.
Thanks again for your effort and commitment. The player
participation in
our house league and travel programs remains outstanding.
The 2010/2011
campaign promises to be even bigger and better in terms of
player registration and the
content we will offer. Please reference our website for
summer camps,
clinics and ice time opportunities throughout the spring and
summer.
Lastly, I wish to take this opportunity to introduce your
new Winnetka Youth Travel Director, Michael Purcell. Based
on Michael’s knowledge, background, experience and love of
hockey, I know he will do an outstanding job in his new
role. I also want to thank you for the opportunity of
working with Winnetka’s kids, parents and coaches. There is
no better youth hockey program in Illinois and I have
thoroughly enjoyed my time in this role.
As always, looking forward to seeing you around the rink.
Mike Straub
Youth Travel Director
